The Bavarian Environmental Pact has been in existence since 1995. In an agreement with the Bavarian state, a total of 1230 companies and craft businesses have committed themselves to tackling environmental and sustainability issues above and beyond the legal requirements.
We have been involved since 2005. We want to contribute to improving our environmental footprint and sustainability with comprehensive measures and projects. This ranges from our carbon footprint to the avoidance of plastic in the company and in everyday life outside.
In 2019, the Environment team was set up to address all kinds of sustainability issues within the company and take care of their implementation. Savings projects included, for example, the construction of photovoltaic systems at almost all emz locations and the use of waste heat from production for heating and hot water generation. LEDs as light sources have been standard for years. In addition, electricity and temperature are now intelligently controlled according to demand. In 2021, we also joined the East Bavarian sustainability initiative OHA!, which aims to sustainably reduce CO² emissions in the region.
Around 30 % of emz global's energy requirements are now generated by our own photovoltaic systems. From January 2025, we will also be purchasing exclusively green electricity from the supplier in Germany. Every year, we save an average of 5-7% energy through smarter solutions. The recycling of plastic waste has been a major topic in recent years. Today, 80% of waste is recycled. We are also keeping up with the times when it comes to our CO2 balance. We are now working on Scope 3, i.e. determining and improving the carbon footprint not only where it is caused directly in the company, but also in the entire supply chain. Importantly, our customers in the household appliance sector, such as BSH, Elektrolux, Samsung and Whirlpool, are also working on these issues.
For us, the Environmental Pact is a visible sign of emz's commitment to the environment, which goes far beyond the legal requirements.
